10 things we want from Westworld season 2

The Westworld season 1 finale, titled ‘The Bicameral Mind’, aired in the UK tonight. It gave answers to a surprising number of questions but left us with plenty more to ponder until the next season.

If you haven’t seen the final episode of Westworld season one yet and want to avoid spoilers then please stop reading now. If you are up-to-date and want to relive the action, or just don’t mind spoilers, then please keep on reading.

In the season finale The Man in Black interrogated Dolores about Wyatt and the center of the maze. Upset at her answers he beat her but she was convinced William would come to her rescue. The Man in Black then revealed that he is William. He’d been coming to Westworld for over 30 years and was now the owner of Delos who run the park. Dolores couldn’t remember because of the memory wipes each time her loop was reset.

With this new information she fought back and managed to hurt him but he stabbed her in the stomach. Teddy arrived to save her and took her away to where the mountains meet the sea. As she died in his arms it was revealed that the scene was part of Ford’s new narrative ‘Journey into Night’.

Meanwhile, Maeve recruited Hector and Armistice to aid her escape. During their attempt they resurrected Bernard who discovered that Maeve’s escape had been programmed for her. She refused to believe it and said she was making her own decisions. Before their final showdown they caught a glimpse of what appeared to be a second park, Samurai World.

Maeve and Felix left Hector and Armistice behind to fight off the security guards. Hector appeared overwhelmed and Armistice got her arm caught in a lockdown door. Felix gave a note to Maeve with the location of her daughter – ‘Park 1, Sector 15, Zone 3’.

Maeve made it to the train out of the park but before it left the station she managed to made a decision against her programming. She decided to get off the train and go back and find her daughter.

Back in the lab Dolores spoke with Ford and Bernard. Ford explained what Arnold had tried to do and that since his death he had been preparing to help the hosts as well. She discovered that the center of the maze was her own voice, consciousness and that she was actually Wyatt. She had killed Arnold and been programmed to kill the other hosts.

Ford gave a speech to the Delos board about how everyone would be players in his last narrative. Dolores shot Ford dead and turned her gun on the other guests. At the end of the episode, an army of hosts attacked the guests.

Here’s our top 10 things we want from Westworld season 2:

  1. Ford (Anthony Hopkins) to feature. It would appear that Ford is dead but things aren’t always so straight forward in Westworld. It’s possible that Ford had created a clone of himself. Dolores may have just killed a host version of Ford but even if she killed the real life version there may still be a clone to continue his work. Anthony Hopkins was fantastic as Ford so it would be a real shame if we’ve seen the end of him.
  2. Dolores (Rachel Evan Wood) and Teddy (James Marsden) to return. As the main character Dolores will need to be back next season. Now she has woken up and found her consciousness she should be able to continue to make her own decisions. She deserves to be with Teddy so we’d love to see her help him wake up too. It’s near impossible right now to guess what’s in store for the pair but we’d be happy to see them go up against The Man in Black again.
  3. Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) to return. If Ford has indeed gone then it makes sense for Bernard to take his place. He seems to also in a position to make his own decisions so it will be interesting to see what he does next. There was a handshake between he and Ford in the finale which we’re convinced had more to it. Hopefully all will be revealed in season 2.
  4. William/The Man in Black (Ed Harris) to survive. He got his wish at the end of the series of a level playing field where the hosts would fight back. He looked absolutely delighted when a bullet grazed his arm. Presuming he survives we want to see how the changes affect him and if they are everything he was hoping for. It would be good to also explore his life outside of the park seeing as he owns the majority share.
  5. Maeve (Thandie Newton) to find her daughter. Maeve appeared to have found her consciousness by the end of the series by going against her programming. She’s presumably on a mission to find her daughter and it would be really interesting if ‘Park 1’ happened to not be Westworld but one of the other parks. We’d love to see her back with Felix (Leonardo Nam).
  6. Hector (Rodrigo Santoro) and Armistice (Ingrid Bolso Berdal) to return. While it looked like Hector was overwhelmed, a post-credit scene revealed that Armistice hacked her arm off to keep fighting and possibly escape. It seems simple to repair damaged hosts so there should be no reason they won’t be back. The gun battles against the security were fantastic to watch. Maybe they could link back up with Maeve to help her find her daughter?
  7. To find out what happened to Abernathy (Louis Herthum). The malfunctioning father of Dolores was earmarked by Charlotte for a secret mission. She wanted to use him to smuggle Ford’s secrets out of the park. We didn’t get to find out if this mission definitely went ahead or his location at the end of the series. If they did get him out then Delos could be in possession of many of Ford’s secrets which they could use against the host uprising.
  8. The Delos reaction. With hosts in Westworld waking up and killing the guests, we’re interested to see how Delos will react. Will Delos try and shut Westworld down? What will they do if hosts start escaping? Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson) and Lee Sizemore (Simon Quarterman) seemed to have big plans to overthrow Ford. Presuming they survive a lot could depend on Abernathy.
  9. Where are Elsie (Shannon Woodward) and Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth). Despite the absence of both characters in the finale we’re convinced that both are still very much alive. These two have much knowledge about the hosts which could be very important going forward. What we don’t know is will they take the side of Delos or the hosts?
  10. More detail on other parks. The finale gave us a glimpse at a possible Samurai World and the note to Maeve indicated that there was also more than one park. Also Maeve’s programming that Bernard uncovered mentioned ‘Mainland Infiltration’ suggesting that Westworld may be on an island of some kind. How many parks are there? What are there themes? Are they all located on the same ‘island’? Have hosts in other parks begun to wake up too?

Westworld will return in 2018 for season 2 on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK. Let us know your thoughts on the finale and hopes for season 2 in the comments below.
