Liverpool has been axed from the auditions stage of The X Factor.
According to The Mirror, the move comes after bosses decided to have a fresh start after last year’s Christopher Maloney became a laughing stock by reaching the final three.
Plymouth has been named as a possible replacement, despite the city having not much musical heritage.
Deputy mayor of Liverpool, Gary Millar said of the decision: “It’s ridiculous to say Liverpool doesn’t have talent. The last three finalists came from Merseyside. Liverpool is the city with 57 Number One hits. The history of bands and upcoming venues is second to none.”
Liverpool natives Rebecca Ferguson and Marcus Collins both made it to the finals in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
An X Factor spokeman said: “Last year we found some great talent in Liverpool, but this yaer we won’t be retuning we visit a range of cities.”
The X Factor bosses have also axed Newcastle, depite the city being featured last year at the audition stage.
