UK’s Eurovision Song Contest entry revealed

Singer-songwriter Molly Smitten-Downes is to represent the UK at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

The BBC made the announcement today and confirmed that the 26-year-old from Leicestershire will be performing her own song Children of the Universe. Molly was discovered through BBC Introducing and invited to compose and perform a song for the competition.

Molly has been singing and composing songs for over 10 years. In 2012 she was awarded Best Urban/Pop Act at Live and Unsigned and in 2013 she won Best Song at the Best of British Unsigned Music Awards.

Talking about representing the UK molly said, ā€œI’m so excited for everyone to hear ‘Children of The Universe’. I’m so happy with it. To represent the United Kingdom in such a huge competition, not only as a singer and performer but as a songwriter is an unbelievable honour. I hope I can do us proudā€.

The Eurovision Song Contest will take place on Sunday 10th May in Copenhagen, Denmark. The show will be broadcast on BBC One HD with commentary by Graham Norton.
