Top 5 Strictly Come Dancing 2014 week 5 dances

Last night the 12 remaining couples danced once again to secure the public vote and the judges scores on Strictly Come Dancing 2014.

There is a real gulf in ability this year between the celebrities and it’s the clearest divide that the show has had in years. It seems the public are voting for entertainment value rather than dance ability which means we could end up losing a good dancer in tonight’s results show.

We’ve selected our top 5 dances from week 5. Keep reading on to find out who has made the cut.

5. Steve Backshall & Ola Jordan

Naturalist Steve Backshall made a welcome return to form last night with his Waltz and showed that he can deliver on the dancefloor. Ola Jordan’s choreography was beautiful and we think that Ballroom could be Steve’s strongest style.

4. Frankie Bridge & Kevin Clifton

Last night’s Foxtrot was light, fun and delightful to watch. Frankie Bridge is growing and growing every week and her chemistry with partner Kevin Clifton makes them one of our favourite couples. We think that Frankie has plenty more surprises up her sleeve for the rest of the series.

3. Pixie Lott & Trent Whiddon

Pixie Lott hasn’t featured too much in our Top 5s yet this series but last night’s Samba was lots of fun. Even though Pixie is one of the best dancers in the show, we think that the public may get a Denise Van Outen-like feel due to her prior dance experience. Still Pixie and Trent Whiddon entertained last night with their effortless performance.

2. Caroline Flack & Pasha Kovalev

Caroline Flack is having a good run so far on Strictly and last night’s Paso Doble was one of her best dances yet. She always gets into character and her technical ability is seriously impressive. We’re expecting to see Caroline and Pasha Kovalev in the final.

1. Mark Wright & Karen Hauer

What a Samba! Mark Wright came back fighting this week after landing in the bottom two last weekend. He smiled his way through a Samba which was strong on technique and high on energy. Karen Hauer knows how to get the best out of him and they make a great partnership.

Strictly Come Dancing 2014 continues at 7.20pm tonight as another couple leaves the competition.
