The Witcher TV series gets December release – watch the new trailer now

Netflix have released a brand new trailer for The Witcher TV series, the trailer confirms that the show will hit our screens on 20th December.

Based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher follows the adventures of Geralt of Riviera (Henry Cavill) and is set in the world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witches, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.

You can view the new trailer below:

If you’ve read the books or played the games you’ll be pleased that the trailer ticks all the boxes you’ll be hoping for. It’s dark, gritty, full of violence, an orgy and the obligatory bathtub scene.

Joining Henry Cavill are Freya Allan as Ciri, Anya Charlotra as Yennefer, Anna Shaffer as Triss and Therica Wilson-Read as Sabrina.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Lauren Hissrick had this to say when asked how the TV show will compare to the books and the games:

“We’re not adapting the videogames, it’s a straight adaptation of the books. Which is great as the videogames are also an adaptation of the books. They went one direction, we actually get to go another. We’re kind of holding close to our chest what we’re doing in the first season. There’s a lot of obviously epic excitement that starts in the saga of the books. But the short stories provided a lot of world-building and lay the foundation of this Continent and the politics of it and the understanding of the people of it and those really came into focus in the first season.”

The Witcher will be released on 20th December 2019 and will be available exclusively on Netflix.
