Judith (Alex Kingston) flew out with Georgia (Kate Beckinsale) and arranged a lift with some aid workers to take her to Kisima in search of Pieter. Georgia was determined to find answers about what happened with her husband Will (Matthew Le Nevez). She also called her godfather Martin Benson (Charles Dance) again for help.

Later, the aid workers were stopped by militia and had their vehicle and possessions taken, including Georgia’s wedding ring. When one of the militia groped her and then tried to take her away, Georgia fought back. She kneed him in the groin and smashed him in the face with a large rock. She took his gun and shot the other militia man, sending her attacker fleeing.

We also spent some time with Pieter where he saw child soldier Adidja (Shalom Nyandiko) let her friend Molisho (Likho Mango) run away. Pieter offered to keep her secret in return for her performing a task. This was to execute a man at a local village and she did as he asked.

Elsewhere in the episode, in Rotterdam, we got a lot more answers about Ariel Helgason (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) who told everything about the plane crash to Beatrix (Louise Brealey). He explained that he had seen a woman given a bag to take on the plane. It contained a laptop and he saw it explode, blowing a hole in the side of the plane.

We found out that he and a woman he was sat with called Dominique both survived. Ariel suffered terrible injuries and sent Dominique on ahead to find help and tell the truth of what had happened. He was found and taken to hospital where he was treated for collapsed lungs, internal bleeding, broken ribs and a severely lacerated kidney that had to be removed. He also had signs of retinal hemorrhages which were affecting his vision.

After finding out that Dominique was reported to have died he realised he might not be safe. He left the hospital and told no one his story. However, when he finally got back to Kinshasa the injuries to his eyes had progressed too far and couldn’t be revered, causing his sight loss. Beatrix panicked at hearing the truth and walked away from him.

At the end of the episode, Ariel was leaving Rotterdam but paid a visit by Martin. He said he wanted to talk about the plane crash as he knew who he was and what he had done.

The next episode is Violet. Martin and Ariel seek to determine the identity of the army general linked to the plane crash, while Georgia puts herself in danger to get closer to Pieter.

The fourth episode of The Widow airs Tuesday 16th April on ITV at 9pm. Preview it with our gallery:
