The Widow 1×02 Green Lion preview

On the season premiere of The Widow, Georgia Wells (Kate Beckinsale) discovered that her missing husband might actually still be alive.

If you’re not up to date with The Widow and like to avoid spoilers we suggest you don’t read any further.

Three years ago, Georgia’s husband Will Mason (Matthew Le Nevez) had flown out to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) where he was working for DRC Aid. On an internal flight to Kinshasa his plane crashed and his body was never found.

After the crash Georgia went out to the DRC and met two of the fellow relatives of passengers – Hennie Botha (Bart Fouche) and Emmanuel Kazadi (Jacky Ido).

In the present, Georgia had become a recluse living in Wales. After injuring her leg she went for treatment and spotted someone who she became convinced was her husband on a news report about riots in Kinshasa.

She ignored the advice of her godfather, Martin Benson (Charles Dance), and went back to investigate. She stayed with Judith Gray (Alex Kingston), her husband’s former boss, and met up with Emmanuel. Judith was also convinced Georgia was wasting her time but Emmanuel offered to help.

He uncovered new CCTV footage showing the man from the news report who seemed to be held at gunpoint by Hennie. They later found out that Hennie’s real name was Pieter Bellow.

Elsewhere in the episode, in Rotterdam, a man named Ariel Helgason (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) met a woman called Beatrix (Louise Brealey) at a clinical trial that hoped to restore sight to the blind. Ariel said that he was the only survivor of the plane crash in the Congo.

At the end of the episode, someone rented a car for Georgia in the glove box she found a black leather glove that contained a note saying ‘GO HOME’.

The next episode is Green Lion. To find the truth about her husband, Georgia must first work with Emmanuel to find Pieter Bello. Meanwhile, Beatrix makes a shocking discovery about how Ariel lost his sight.

The second episode of The Widow airs Tuesday 9th April on ITV at 9pm. Preview it with our gallery:
