Tonightās episode of The Following was certainly pretty action-packed wasnāt it? There was so much going on itās hard to know where to start.
If you havenāt seen the episode or donāt want any spoilers then stop reading now. If youāve already seen it then carry on reading.
Fly Away saw movement across all of the storylines that the season has been slowly building on and left plenty of questions about whatās going to happen next. Weāll start off by talking about Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) who lay recovering in the motel with the assistance of Max (Jessica Stroup) as the episode began. It wasnāt long before he was shaking off that nasty wound and calling on Mike Weston (Shawn Ashmore) for help after agreeing with Max that they needed to get the FBI involved. What Ryan didnāt know is that Mike was feeling a little rogue and turned up to the motel not giving the FBI any tip-off at all.
Between the three of them, they hatched a plan to lure Luke (Sam Underwood) back to the motel where they promptly knocked him out and took him hostage. What was the big plan? Ryan planned to use Luke for leverage against Lily (Connie Nielsen) to draw Joe (James Purefoy) out of hiding. After making contact with Lily using Lukeās phone, Ryan informed her that he had her son hostage and had killed two of her āchildrenā. He offered to exchange Luke for Joe at a nearby dam bridge which Lily agreed to. As he spoke to her Mike and Max traced the call and pinpointed the location of their hideout.
When Lily turned up at the dam with Mark (Sam Underwood), she had a hostage of her own wearing a Joe mask. Surely no one was in any doubt that she would actually trade in Joe for her son? Max was alone with Luke on the dam as Mike hid nearby. Ryan on the other hand was on his way to find Lilyās secret hideout and exact revenge on Joe once and for all. Weāll get to Joe shortly folks donāt worry. Meanwhilst back on the dam a nasty stand-off took place after Mike made his presence known. After he and Max discarded their guns, and Mark did the same, Mike tried to negotiate with them for Joeās location. Lily pulled a knife on her hostage stabbing him which pushed Mike over the edge as he stabbed Luke in retaliation. They then agreed to exchange hostages but Mike wasnāt giving up that easily.
He pursued them on foot and shot out the back window of Lilyās getaway car. As she looked on in horror, Lily witness Luke attacking Mike before her son was shot. She told Mark to drive away from the scene so they could get to safety. Thinking her son was dead, Lily was distraught but despite being stabbed, shot and punched up by Mike, Luke somehow survived and was taken to a nearby high security hospital.
Joe had an equally busy episode this week as he was tricked by Lily who drugged his drink to keep him at the house whilst she went to deal with Ryan following the discovery of Giselleās body and learning what had happened to her at Ryanās hands. Prior to that Mandy (Tiffany Boone) took great pleasure rubbing Joe and Lilyās night of passion in Emmaās (Valorie Curry) face. Joe and Lily had an exchange after their sex session where Lily revealed she had a plan to move them all to Venezuela with new identities to start a new life. It seemed that Joe wasnāt entirely up for Lilyās plan and her fury started to show. After witnessing Emma and Joe sharing a tender moment, Mandy stirred things up further by telling Lily that Joe didnāt want to leave with her which led to the drugging!
Once Lily was out of the house, Emma and Mandy joined forces and found a drugged Joe in one of the bedrooms. Emma brought him round and the three decided to head to the landing strip to get in their getaway plane before Lily and her sons. When they opened the bedroom door, Radmila (Rita Markova) was there standing guard. Joe stuck a fireplace poker in her leaving her for dead and putting a huge smile on Emmaās face. Ā As they escape from the house, Joe sees Ryan looking at him out of the bedroom window.
Not sure where the landing strip was, Emma called Mark to get the address before hanging up on him. They arrived at the location of the plane and just as they are boarding Joe receives a phonecall. Next thing you know Ryan and the FBI are all over the scene but Joe, Emma and Mandy are nowhere to be found. Where have they gone?
Well it seems that Jana (Leslie Bibb) has been helping them avoid the FBI by keeping tabs on whatās going on. It was her that called Joe and led him to safety navigating him off the beaten track so he doesnāt get caught. How long until she gets found out we wonder?
The episode came to a close with Lily contacting Joe explaining that they couldnāt get to the plane due to the FBI. He callously told her he didnāt care and he wasnāt bothered that Luke was dead (oh but he isnāt!)Ā and snidely said she was getting what she deserved. This caused Lily to have a fit of rage and vomit outside of her car.
The Following continues Mondays on FOX at 9/8c in the US and Tuesdays on Sky Atlantic at 10pm in the UK.
