Smash & The New Normal cancelled by NBC

Smash and The New Normal are joining Go On in the TV graveyard after being cancelled by NBC.

The demise of Smash has been predicted since the second season began and picked up weight when the show was moved to the Saturday night graveyard slot. The musical drama has struggled in the ratings and failed to pick up a loyal following.

The New Normal, Ryan Murphy’s comedy drama starring Justin Bartha and Andrew Rannells, divided audiences and caused controversy upon its initial airing due to its central characters being a gay couple. The controversy died down and the show was received well but sadly the ratings didn’t improve over the season.

NBC has surprised though by renewing Community, a show that everyone thought was a sure-fire cancellation this year. It just goes to show you never can tell can you?

Whatever anyone else thought of Smash and The New Normal we loved both shows and will miss them in our TV schedule.
