Rick and Morty renewed for 70 episodes

It’s official, Rick and Morty has been renewed and it’s even better news than fans were expecting.

The show’s future has been hanging in the balance since season 3 finished on Adult Swim (Netflix here in the UK) last summer with creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon blaming lengthy negotiations with the network.

It’s now officially been announced that Rick and Morty has been renewed for 70 more episodes. At this time it’s unclear how that will break down but if it follows the 10-episode format of the last two seasons then that would mean fans have 7 seasons to look forward to.

At the end of the season 3 finale Mr Poopybutthole warned fans that they would have a long wait for new episodes and it looks like he wasn’t wrong. No new episodes are expected to arrive until 2019.

Rick and Morty features the voice talents of Justin Roiland, Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer and Sarah Chalke. It launched in December 2013 and has gone on to be a huge global success.

The show tells the story of scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty. The two get into all kinds of inter-dimensional messes and their family – Beth, Jerry and Summer – often get dragged into the middle of it.

Rick and Morty has spawned plenty of memorable characters including Mr Poopybutthole, Pickle Rick, Squanchy and Mr Meeseeks to name a few. The show has been lucrative in the merchandise arena with everything from Pop! Vinyl figures and t-shirts through to badges and mugs.
