The latest episode of Penny Dreadful served up the backstory of Vanessa Ives (Eva Green).
In the flashback episode we saw Vanessa learning to harness her witch powers with help from the Cut-Wife (Patti LuPone), a trainer and master of the dark arts. As the two women worked together, the Cut-Wife began to realise the extent of Vanessa’s powers and warned her of the dangers that would lie ahead for her.
The next episode of the season is Evil Spirits in Heavenly Places. While Lyle reveals that the Verbis Diablo relics tell a very dark and disturbing story, Hecate tries to get closer to Ethan.
