Michelle Fox to star in BBC Three’s Overshadowed

Filming has begun on BBC Three’s new drama series Overshadowed, an 8 part drama series starring Michelle Fox (Doctors) and written by Eva O’Connor and Hildegard Ryan.

Based on O’Connor’s award winning play, the drama tells the story of Imogene (Fox), an Irish vlogger who loses control of her life due to the personified appearance of anorexia.

Overshadowed will tell the story through a series of vlogs across 8 episodes. All of the episodes are told from Imogene’s point of view creating a documentary style. With humour, compelling storytelling, gritty subject matter and an original style Overshadowed will provide a unique insight into teenage life and the character’s increasingly fragile mental state.

Eva O’Connor and Hildegard Ryan comment: “We are delighted to be working with Kay, her amazing team at Rollem Productions and BBC Three to bring this story, which is very close to our hearts, to life. We hope Overshadowed will be a fresh and innovative take on eating disorders and the way they can take over young people’s lives. We feel the YouTube style episodes are the perfect way to chart Imogene’s journey and capture the minds of young audiences.”

The drama series is set to shed new light on anorexia and mental illness more generally in the social media age and certainly sounds like compelling viewing.
Overshadowed is expected to be released at the end of 2017.
