John Simm and Adrian Lester team up for ITV thriller Trauma

Adrian Lester (Hustle, Undercover) and John Simm (Life on Mars, Exile) have been announced as starring in Trauma, a new three part thriller for ITV.

Written by Mike Bartlett (Doctor Foster, The Town), Trauma is a psychological thriller focusing on the lives of two fathers whose worlds collide when Dan’s (Simm) 15 year old son Alex is stabbed and dies in the trauma department attended by high-achieving consultant John (Lester).

Devastated by his loss and believing John to be responsible Dan begins to unpick the consultant’s life as he unwittingly allows his own to do the same. The series is billed as an intricate, fast paced thriller which assesses themes surrounding what makes a man good and investigates the reaction of people when they are let down by institutions and people there to protect them.

Trauma also stars Rowena King (Lie To Me, The Bucket List) as John’s wife, a successful psychiatrist, Jade Anouka (Chewing Gum) as their daughter and Lyndsey Marshall (Trespass Against Us, Rome) as Dan’s hard working wife Susie.

Mike Bartlett has said, “I wrote Trauma knowing we needed, and hoping we’d get, hugely talented actors for the roles. But this cast has exceeded expectations. I’m a huge fan of all of them individually and can’t wait to see them on screen together.”

Producer, Catherine Oldfield, who developed the show with Mike Bartlett, added, “We are delighted to have such a fantastic cast, led by John and Adrian, to bring this gripping modern British story to the screen for ITV. ”

Trauma promises to be a gripping series which will call on each viewer to ask series questions about society, morality and ultimately themselves and with such a strong cast it is unlikely to disappoint.

The series will begin filming in June 2017
