Don Mancini’s Child’s Play TV series in development at Syfy

There may be a reboot coming to cinemas this year but Child’s Play creator Don Mancini is pressing on with his franchise as Deadline reports his Chucky TV series is being developed at Syfy.

The series will of course focus on Chucky, the iconic red-haired serial killer doll that has featured on the big screen in 7 films, most recently 2017’s Cult of Chucky. Mancini is attached to the series along with producer David Kirschner and TV writer/producer Nick Antosca (Huluā€™s The Act).

“Itā€™s very rare that you get the opportunity to bring such an iconic character to your network, let alone with the original creator attached,ā€ said Bill McGoldrick, President, Scripted Content, NBCU Cable Entertainment. “We look forward to working with Don, David and Nick on putting their blood, sweat, and more blood into bringing the Chucky story to television.”

Speculation has been rife since last summer that a Chucky TV series was being planned following a tweet from Mancini.

“Iā€™ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and Syfy is the perfect network for us,” Mancini said today. “The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chuckyā€™s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.”

There’s no more details about the series at the time of writing but as soon as we hear more, we’ll of course let you know.
