Dancing On Ice 2014 week 5 recap

Dancing On Ice is really going out with a bang for its final series and the all-stars approach is really delivering some fantastic entertainment.

Last weekā€™s live show saw Zaraah Abrahams lose the skate-off to Kyran Bracken meaning that she left the competition. Honestly neither of the celebs should have been in the bottom two as there are much weaker skaters still in the competition.

Tonightā€™s show opened with a stunning routine from the professional skaters to Evanescenceā€™s Bring Me To Life. Just like Strictly, the professionals are upping their game every week and we are amazed at just how spectacular they are this series.

This week there was everything to skate for as the infamous duel week finally arrived. This meant that the couples competed against each other and were paired based on their combined scores so far this series. The winner of each duel goes through to next weekā€™s show but the losers are up for the public vote. Itā€™s definitely going to be a nail-biter isnā€™t it?

Kicking the duel off tonight was actor Sam Attwater against last weekā€™s skate-off survivor Kyran Bracken. Last week Sam was told he had given his best performance yet so he must have felt confident skating against Kyran. In training Sam admitted that Kyran was very competitive so this should definitely be an interesting battle. Kyran told his partner Nina Ulanov that they had to come out fighting this week. The couples skated to Michael Jacksonā€™s Beat It.

What a great start to the show. We thought that Sam and his partner Vicky Ogden were stronger than Kyran and Nina. They definitely stood out during the parts of the routine where they skated apart.

Karen said it was difficult to choose but sided with Kyran. Ashley said she was blown away by the performance telling Kyran he stepped it up but chose to save Sam. Jason said it was explosive and full of testosterone before choosing to save Sam. Robin said it was powerful and aggressive and chose to save Kyran.

Kyran and Nina won the duel which meant Sam and Vicky were up for the public vote.

Next to battle was Gareth Gates and Brianne Delcourt against Bonnie Langford and Andrei Lipanov. The two couples have consistently been at the bottom of the leaderboard but only Bonnie has been in the skate-off so far. One of them will definitely be in the skate-off tonight but who will it be? Both celebs admitted that it was going to be a tough duel as they are very close technically. Tonight the couples danced to Things performed by Robbie Williams and Jane Horrocks.

Gareth and Bonnie were really close tonight and we have no idea which way the judges will vote.

Karen admitted that she changed her mind several times during the performance but chose to save Gareth. Ashley said they made it really difficult for her to choose but went with Bonnie. Jason said it was ā€˜killing with kindnessā€™ but chose to save Bonnie. That meant it was down to Robin again. He agreed with Karen saying he changed his mind several times and saved Gareth.

Gareth and Brianne won the duel which meant Bonnie and Andrei were up for the public vote.

The third duel of the night was one that was definitely going to be amongst the toughest. Hayley Tamaddon and Dan Whiston were going up against Beth Tweddle and Lukasz Rozycki. Both couples achieved their highest scores to date last week with Hayley having the edge. During training Torvill and Dean admitted Hayley was a stronger performer whilst Beth was a stronger skater. Both women seemed very nervous in training about their chances of winning. The couples skated to Christina Aguileraā€™s Fighter.

Hayley was the better of the two for us. She performs better and gives much more in the way of attack.

Karen said there was mistakes from both but chose to save Hayley. Ashley said Beth has stepped it up but chose to save Hayley. Jason chose to save Hayley saying he wanted to save the skater who gave the most. Robin agreed that he would save Hayley as she wanted to win more during the performance.

Hayley and Dan won the duel which meant that Beth and Lukasz were up for the public vote.

The final duel of the evening was Ray Quinn and Maria Filippov versus Suzanne Shaw and Matt Evers. The two topped the leaderboard last week with Ray edging Suzanne out by scoring full points. When Suzanne found out who she was duelling with she shrieked unable to believe she would be against him. The competition was fierce during training and both celebs admitted they wanted to win. The couples skated to Meatloaf and Cherā€™s Dead Ringer For Love.

Talk about tough! Suzanne and Ray match each other for technique and performance so we couldnā€™t possibly guess which couple will be saved.

Karen said she applauded both couples but chose Ray as her winner. Ashley also chose to save Ray. Jason said the performance was magical and chose to save Ray. Robin said he loved Suzanne when she was aggressive but said Ray had more control so chose to save him.

Ray and Maria won the duel which meant Suzanne and Matt were up for the public vote.

With all the couples having skated in the duel, the couples up for the public vote had to skate again to secure their place in the competition. This was the last chance for Sam, Bonnie, Beth and Suzanne to stay out of the skate-off.

First to skate again was Sam and Vicky who performed to Newton Faulknerā€™s Dream Catch Me. They gave another stunning performance and weā€™ll be very shocked if they end up in the skate-off during tonightā€™s live results show.

Robin said that there were a few errors in the routine and told Sam he wanted to see him enjoy himself more. Karen said that she wants Sam to stay in the competition. Jason said Sam and Vickyā€™s real-life partnership came through at the start but fell apart mid routine. Ashley said it was a great performance admitting she got ā€˜lost in the momentā€™.

Second to skate again was Bonnie and Andrei. They performed to Suzi Quatroā€™s Devil Gate Drive and they certainly gave it their all. Honestly we thought Gareth should have been skating again not Bonnie.

Ashley said that she loved the performance. Jason called Bonnie a ā€˜bona fide rock chickā€™ telling her it was thrilling. Karen said Bonnie never ceases to amaze her saying she was won over. Robin said ā€˜since when did Bonnie Langford let looseā€™ calling her performance glorious.

Beth and Lukasz were the third to skate again and they performed to Aretha Franklinā€™s Think. We like Beth but that wasnā€™t her strongest skate. Could she be in danger tonight?

Jason said that Beth needed to let go like Bonnie did before her. Karen said she agreed with Jason that it was a safe performance. Ashley said the technique was good but told Beth she needed to improve her performance. Robin agreed with the other judges and told Beth she needs to let loose so she enjoys it more.

The last couple to skate again was Suzanne and Matt who performed to Taylor Swiftā€™s I Knew You Were Trouble. Uh oh! That was quite a stumble in the middle of that performance and we think that could land Suzanne and Matt in the skate-off later.

Robin said that Suzanne didnā€™t let the mistakes or fall affect the performance. Jason said that Suzanne always rises to the occasion even after she stumbled. Ashley said Suzanne was fierce and commended her on how she picked herself back up. Karen said Suzanne managed the mistake and got on with it.

All the couples had skated again so now it’s over to the public to cast their votes. Who will be going home? Suzanne, Beth, Bonnie or Sam?

Tune in to Dancing On Ice’s results show at 8.30pm to find out who will be leaving.
