Police crime drama Powers, from the team who produced The Walking Dead, arrives on Spike this June.
The series turns the superhero concept on its head asking ‘what if the world was full of superheroes who arenāt heroic at all?’ Following the lives of two homicide detectives, Powers features an all-star cast including Sharlto Copley (District 9), Susan Heyward (30 Rock), Eddie Izzard (Hannibal), Noah Taylor (Game of Thrones), Michelle Forbes (True Blood), Olesya Rulin (High School Musical), Max Fowler (Wolf Hall), Adam Godley (Mad Men) and Logan Browning (Bratz).
The Powers Division is assigned to investigate cases involving people with extraordinary abilities, referred to as āPowersā. Set amidst the immediacy of todayās social media culture, Powers asks the questions, what if the world was full of superheroes that arenāt actually heroic at all. What if all that power was just one more excuse for mischief, mayhem, murder, and endorsement deals? The Powers Division is brave enough to go up against the overpaid, commercialised, super humans imposing their power over those who both worship and fear them.
Anna-Belen Dunlop, Acting Acquisitions and Channel Manager at Spike comments, āIām delighted to welcome edgy crime drama, Powers to the Spike schedule. With great cast and impressive effects, itās an exciting twist on the superhero genre. Iām sure our audience will enjoy it as much as From Dusk Till Dawn, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead.ā
The series is based on the graphic novel series of the same name, and is executive produced by the team behind Caprica (the prequel to Battlestar Galactica) and iconic comics including Marvelās Ultimate series, Daredevil and Judge Dredd.
Powers is distributed by Sony Pictures Television.
