Norman (Freddie Highmore) claimed his next victim on the season 4 opener of Bates Motel.
After being found in a field talking to his mother (who wasn’t present), Norman was committed to a hospital for observation. Norma (Vera Farmiga) rushed to her son’s side but was furious when she wasn’t allowed to see him. She was even more angry when the doctor told her she had neglected her son by not having sought help for him.
During Norman’s stay in hospital, Emma’s (Olivia Cooke) estranged mother Audrey (Karina Logue) arrived in town. After being turned away from the hospital where Emma was having her lung transplant, Audrey checked in to the Bates Motel. When she revealed who she was Norma gave her a frosty reception and refused to help her connect with Emma.
Once Norman returned home, Audrey went up to the house to speak with him and found him dressed in Norma’s night gown. She appealed to him to help her but Norman flipped out and murdered her in the living room.
Elsewhere in the episode Norma asked Romero (Nestor Carbonell) to marry her so she could use his insurance to get Norman help, and Dylan (Max Thieriot) stayed by Emma’s side in hospital as she recovered from her operation.
The next episode of the season is Goodnight, Mother. Suspicions fill the Bates household, Dylan has a decision to make, and Romero’s actions might have serious implications for Norma and Norman.
