17 million see Murray win Wimbledon

A record audience of 17.29 viewers saw Andy Murray’s Wimbledon victory yesterday.

Andy won the title in three straight sets over Novak Djokovic, and scored the highest television ratings for 2013. An average audience of 12.09 million tuned in to BBC One.

The Wimbledon win overtakes ITV’S Britain’s Got Talent as the highest-rated 2013 programme, and that had 13.1 million viewers.

Andy beat the Serbian, and made history by becoming the first British men’s singles champion at Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936.

Congratulations Andy!
