York Theatre Royal’s TakeOver festival takes flight

Phoenix Youth Academy dancers recently struck a pose outside York Minster to celebrate York Theatre Royal’s TakeOver Festival, an arts festival organised and run entirely by 12 to 26-year-olds.

A diverse programme including theatre, music and literature will be taking place in York from 23rd to 28th October. This year’s concept is Walls, an exploration of the diverse barriers of stigma and prejudice in contemporary society and how those challenges are overcome.

TakeOver Festival is supported by Be SpectACTive!, a European project focused on active spectatorship and audience development across contemporary performing arts. Be SpectACTive’s members besides York Theatre Royal include European festivals, theatres, universities and research centres. The event is also sponsored by The Clothworker’s Foundation.

You can see the award-winning Phoenix Dance Theatre perform as part of the festival at York Theatre Royal on 25th and 26th October. Tickets are available at yorktheatreroyal.co.uk.
