West Yorkshire Playhouse annouce new partnership

With less than 50 days to go until the annual Leeds West Indian Carnival, organisers have marked the countdown to the celebrations by announcing a new partnership with West Yorkshire Playhouse.

The announcement comes just days after Europe’s longest running authentic Caribbean carnival parade wowed thousands of spectators with a Pop Up Carnival at the Grand Depart of the Tour de France in Leeds City Centre.

To kick start the partnership, the annual Carnival King and Queen Show will debut at the nationally renowned theatre with breath-taking large scale costumes from across the UK competing for the prestigious Carnival King and Queen 2014 titles and the honour of leading the carnival parade on Bank Holiday Monday 25th August.

West Yorkshire Playhouse Artistic Director, James Brining commented: “It’s a great pleasure to be joining forces with the fantastic Leeds West Indian Carnival. Hosting the King and Queen Show is just the start of a great new partnership. We are excited to have this iconic show on our Quarry stage and we look forward to developing our creative relationship in the near future”.

Tickets are £7:50 and are available now from West Yorkshire Playhouse box office on 0113 213 7700, at www.wyp.org.uk or from Leeds Carnival HQ on 0113 307 0001. More details and updates on Carnival 2014 are available at www.leedscarnival.co.uk .
