Tristan & Yseult to open at West Yorkshire Playhouse

Kneehigh Theatre bring their exciting brand of theatre back to the West Yorkshire Playhouse with the critically acclaimed Tristan & Yseult from 14 – 22 June. This staging of the much-loved Kneehigh classic celebrates the 10 year anniversary of the original production and will open in the Quarry Theatre before embarking on a national UK tour.

Cornish King Mark is at war; he rules with his head not his heart. But he hasn’t counted on falling head over heels for his enemy’s sister, or expected the arrival of the enigmatic Tristan. This critically acclaimed production catapulted Kneehigh onto the national stage. This is the original tale of forbidden desires, broken hearts and the agony of choosing one human being over another. Seen through the eyes of the ‘Unloved’, a chorus of lovespotters, Tristan & Yseult blends comedy, live music, grand passion and tender truths in an irresistible night of love.

Based in Cornwall, Kneehigh is celebrated as one of the UK’s most exciting theatre companies. For more than 30 years, the company has created vigorous, popular and challenging theatre for audiences locally, nationally and internationally.  Using a multi talented team of performers, directors, designers, sculptors, administrators, engineers, musicians and writers, Kneehigh perform with joyful anarchy. Recent productions include Steptoe & Son (co-produced with West Yorkshire Playhouse), The Wild Bridge and Midnight’s Pumpkin.

Tickets for Tristan & Yseult are available at www.wyp.org.uk or by calling the Box Office on 0113 213 7700.
