Paul Daniels reveals cancer diagnosis

World-famous magician Paul Daniels has terminal cancer, it has been reported today.

A statement on the performer’s website revealed: “We can confirm that one of our greatest magicians and entertainers of all times, Paul Daniels, has sadly been diagnosed with an incurable bran tumour. On behalf of Paul, Debbie and their families, we thank you for your kind concerns and support at this sad time and ask that their privacy continues to be respected.”

The Paul Daniels Magic Show ran on BBC Television between 1979 and 1994, seeing Daniels become one of the most popular entertainers in Britain. He also went on to design the illusions for the West End version of Phantom of the Opera and host game shows Every Second Counts and Wipeout. In the early 1980s Daniels and wife Debbie McGee fronted the children’s television show Wizbit.

Management have confirmed that Daniels’ current Intimate Magic Tour is cancelled at present. The Intimate Magic Tour received a five star review from Entertainment Focus in 2015 and in interview Daniels reflected on his experience with the show:

“I love the fact that my life is constantly changing and that every night is a different venue. We just did Port Sunlight (Gladstone Theatre, Merseyside) which was built by the Lever Brothers, and it was a beautiful place. It just goes on and on, and it’s just great.”
