The Selfish Giant is breaking loose in selected theatres across the north this month, in a bold reimagining from Wrongsemble.
Staring Alyce Liburd and Nathan Richard Smith, Oscar Wilde’s classic tale is reborn for the stage and features original music, puppetry, magic and adventure for all ages.
Once upon a time, there was the most beautiful garden where blossom hung from every tree and the sound of birdsong echoed in every corner… But now there is a high wall around it – built by a monstrous selfish giant – which keeps out all the children, with a sign promises that ‘Trespassers will be prosecuted’.
Now people can barely even remember the garden, or the happiness that it once brought to all who played there, until a brave child dares to rediscover what lies within…
The Selfish Giant is the most recent production from critically-acclaimed Leeds-based family theatre company Wrongsemble, following their Summer sell-out production of Peter Pan in the Park and their popular family show Three, with Half Moon Young People’s Theatre.
Co-commissioned by Barnsley Civic and ARC Stockton, The Selfish Giant is directed by Elvi Piper with design by Antony Jones and music by Angus McLeod. The producer is Chemeana Lacey.
The Selfish Giant premieres at Arc, Stockton on 16th February 2018. Book tickets online at arconline.co.uk or call the box office on 01642 525 199. The production transfers to Barnsley Civic on the 18th February, then will play for one night only at The Junction, Goole on 24th February.
