Open Season at West Yorkshire Playhouse

This summer, community and youth performers from across Yorkshire will be coming together to perform at West Yorkshire Playhouse as the theatre throws open its doors for Open Season. This month-long festival features dance and drama, poetry and song, new plays and Youth Theatre productions including the world premiere of the Playhouse Youth Theatre show Girls Like That, written by award-winning playwright Evan Placey. A diverse and energetic array of community artists from Leeds and beyond will take over the Quarry and Courtyard stages from 18th June to 20th July. Uniting Leeds’ youth theatres and playing host to community actors and dancers, schools, singers and spoken word artists, Open Season is a vibrant celebration of creativity in Yorkshire.

West Yorkshire Playhouse artistic director James Brining commented: “We’re thrilled to welcome a fantastic and diverse range of community and youth groups into West Yorkshire Playhouse this summer. It’s our ambition to support and celebrate creativity within our city so we’re handing over our spaces, staff and stages to community performers and young people to showcase their work. We’re looking forward to this first Open Season and the great variety of skills and entertainment it has to offer.”
