The Old Vic and West-End smash hit Noises Off comes to Leeds Grand Theatre next week following its triumphant and critically acclaimed sell-out run in London.
Neil Pearson, David Bark-Jones, Maureen Beattie, Simon Bubb, Danielle Flett, Geoffrey Freshwater, Thomasin Rand and Sasha Waddell will star in Michael Frayn’s multi-award-winning comedy about a the backstage antics of a touring theatre company as they stumble their way through rehearsals, to a shambolic first night in Weston–super-Mare, and a final disastrous performance in Stockton-on-Tees.
Noises Off plays on the concept of a play within a play; a dreadful sex-comedy titled Nothing On is the play in question and each of the three acts of Noises Off contains a performance of the first act of Nothing On. The subtle variations in each version, as off-stage chaos affects on-stage performance, and the contrast between the actors on-stage and off-stage personalities is the basis for the comedy.
Hailed as one of the greatest British comedies ever written, Michael Frayn’s backstage farce serves up a riotous double bill.
Leeds Grand Theatre from Tuesday 23rd to Saturday July this year. Tickets priced from £17.50 to £31. Book online at leedsgrandtheatre.com or call box office on 0844 848 2700.
