John at West Yorkshire Playhouse

John, a moving new piece of verbatim dance-theatre work by Lloyd Newson, Artistic Director of DV8 Physical Theatre, arrives in Leeds this Autumn. The only UK date of the current tour is at West Yorkshire Playhouse from 22nd to 24th October 2015, following a hugely successful run at the National Theatre.

Lloyd Newson interviewed more than fifty men asking them frank questions about love and sex and one of those men was John: What emerged was a story that is both extraordinary and touching. Years of crime, drug use and struggling to survive led John on a search where his life converges with others in an unexpected place, unknown by most. John authentically depicts real-life stories, where movement and spoken word combine to create an intense, moving and poignant theatrical experience.

West Yorkshire Theatre said: “The piece is a powerful paean to redemption and love, it has an authenticity which is seldom realised in dance theatre and the movement choreographed by Lloyd is deeply compelling.”

John is co-produced by the National Theatre of Great Britain, Biennale de la Danse de Lyon, La Villette, Paris, Théâtre de la Ville and Festival d’Automne Paris, Dansens Hus Stockholm, Dansens Hus Oslo and DV8 Physical Theatre, with an additional contribution from Le Grand T, théâtre de Loire-Atlantique and le lieu unique, scène nationale de Nantes.

John is at West Yorkshire Playhouse from 22nd to 24th October 2015. Tickets cost £13 to £35. Book online at www.wyp.org.uk or call the Box Offie on 0113 213 7700.

The production is suitable for ages 16. It contains adult themes, strong language and nudity.
