Sadler’s Wells new initiative for young artists, Wild Card, will see dancer, choreographer and founding member of BirdGang Dance Company Ivan Blackstock, present and curate an evening of work on Thursday 14th and Friday 15th March.
During the evening new work will be performed by Sadler’s Well’s The Company of Elders which is choreographed by Ivan Blackstock and fellow BirdGang member Simeon Qsyea. Simeon also presents a piece exploring What it Means to be Hip Hop and there will be new work, Vice from BirdGang Dance Company member Ukweli Roach.
The evening will be completed by two new works from Ivan. His installation video piece The Awakening will be shown pre-show in the Khan Lecture Theatre.
Ivan was awarded the Back to the Lab bursary in 2011 as part of Sadler’s Wells and Breakin’ Convention’s development of young choreographers. As part of this Ivan was mentored by Sadler’s Wells Associate Artists Jonzi D and Jasmin Vardimon. Reverie, which Ivan developed as part of Back to the Lab will also be performed on the evening.
