Hannah Peel to perform at West Yorkshire Playhouse

Hannah Peel will perform her critically acclaimed album Awake But Always Dreaming at West Yorkshire Playhouse this March, as part of the Playhouse’s pioneering Every Third Minute: a festival of theatre, dementia and hope.

Inspired by the gradual loss of her grandmother to dementia, Hannah Peel’s bright and spellbinding album has the feel of a dream where all of daily life is being expressed and decoded, from feverish rush-hours to the old sunlight of her grandmother’s fading memories.

Peel’s performance joins an eclectic programme running as part of Every Third Minute, the first festival of its kind curated by people living with dementia and their supporters. The title Every Third Minute acknowledges how every three minutes in the UK someone will begin living with dementia.

Highlights from the festival also include: Three, a triple bill of new plays co-written by people living with dementia, touring to Leeds care homes after its debut performance at the Playhouse; Blank Tiles, a humorous and poignant play by writer and performer Dylan Cole which sees a world scrabble champion diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease; and The Nature of Forgetting, a powerful and joyous mime, physical theatre and live music performance visiting the Playhouse after a sell-out run at Edinburgh Fringe.

A series of training workshops and conversations will also run alongside the performance programme, including training for health and social care staff and a dance workshop and a theatre-making workshop for people living with dementia.

Hannah Peel: Awake But Always Dreaming is at West Yorkshire Playhouse on Saturday 10th March at 7pm. Book online at wyp.org.uk or call the Box office on 0113 213 7700.
