Theatre maestros Fuel are producing a monthly series of podcasts by theatre artists called While You Wait. This follows their previous acclaimed podcasts Body Pods and Everyday Moments.
While You Wait comprises twelve podcasts inspired by the idea of waiting. Whether you view waiting as valuable thinking time, a welcome lull in the day-to-day frenzy, or a complete and unforgivable waste of our most precious commodity – time – there will be something in While You Wait that will challenge your thinking on every hiatus.
Artists confirmed for the While You Wait series are:
• Tim Etchells (Artistic Director of the legendary Forced Enetertainment)
• Caroline Horton (double Stage Award winner, creator of You’re Not Like The Other Girls Chrissy and Mess)
• Lewis Gibson (sound artist for Uninvited Guests)
• Brian Lobel (performance artist)
• Rachel Mars (theatre maker and performer)
• Victoria Melody (performance artist)
The first podcast is by Malika Booker. She is a British writer of Guyanese and Grenadian Parentage. Malika was the first Poet in Residence at the Royal Shakespeare Company and her collection Pepperseed is forthcoming from Peepal Tree Press in 2013. You can follow her on Twitter: @Malikabooker.
Malika had this to say about her entry: “African Caribbean hairdressers bring a new meaning to the term ‘wait’ and seemed apt. Grooming black hair is at once an art form, a political statement, a mode of expression, with unique methods of adornment, due to the complex and many faceted nature of our hair. Women (myself included) have been known to sit at the hairdressers for over nine hours getting their hair done. Here the concept of the wait is transformed. Here time and space become irrelevant.”
