Duology ballet in Halifax

Chantry Dance Company brings two original ballets to Halifax. One is based on the life of the genius artist Vincent Van Gogh and the other on Mozart’s famous serenade, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.

What do Mozart and Van Gogh have in common? Both were geniuses in their field, both are celebrated for their work today, and both are now the subject of two original ballets in the innovative Chantry Dance Company’s 2015 UK Tour programme.

Vincent – a stranger to himself, is performed by Chantry’s professional dancers, but interestingly also includes some aspiring young dancers in the ensemble. Four student dancers have been selected through an audition to join Chantry for this production, winning the incredible opportunity to work alongside professionals and to experience life as a dancer in a company. The ballet is based on the life of Van Gogh and pursues the man behind the self-portrait, his relationship with the women he loved, as well as with his one true passion – his art.

The other ballet in Chantry’s tour programme is Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. Set to Mozart’s famous serenade, this ballet invites the audience to create their own interpretation of the dance imagery they are presented with, showing that often there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way of understanding dance.

DUOLOGY: Vincent – A Stranger to Himself and Eine Kleine Nachtmusik will play at The Square Chapel Arts Centre, Halifax on Saturday 26th September, 2015 at 7:30pm. Tickets for the DUOLOGY tour can be ordered at squarechapel.co.uk or by telephone on 01422 349422.
