Discovering performance talent in the North

“It is my aim to make N:DAS the place that film, TV and theatre-makers come to when looking for Northern and Northern-based actors,” says Jo Adamson-Parker,  a Director of Leeds-based Northern Drama Acting Studio, N:DAS.

Jo has been a Casting Director for almost 20 years and her career history is filled with star names from film, television and theatre having worked with the likes of Sir Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, Alan Rickman, Christopher Eccleston, Brian Blessed and Kelsey Grammer.

Now at its new home – with the likes of ITV, Emmerdale, Prime Studios and The Other Planet as its neighbours – N:DAS is in its seventh year and is attracting industry names to host sessions for its actors. Previous classes have been led by writers, actors, directors and producers including Kay Mellor, John Godber and Oscar-nominated director Jamie Donoghue and there are plans for many more in the coming months.

Actors have gone from N:DAS to Coronation Street, The Old Vic, The Bush, Northern Broadsides; to film, children’s television and musical theatre and many continue to attend class between jobs.

“It’s hugely important to me that talent in the North is recognised, celebrated and encouraged,” Jo concludes. “Actors and creators shouldn’t have to move to London to be seen.”

Jo is now auditioning for a new wave of actors on Tuesday 26th September from 6.30pm to 8.30pm; interested parties should email Jo Adamson-Parker at [email protected].
