The X Factor 2017 kicked off its run last night on ITV and despite opening with its lowest ratings in years, the show got a great reception from viewers and critics.
The first round of auditions saw Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh sit through a variety of acts who performed covers and original material. The series kicked off with Rak-Su, a boyband of sorts who almost crashed and burned before Simon let them sing an original song.
The vibe this year felt a little more serious in terms of finding a truly unique artist, rather than trying to get novelty acts through to the live shows. Time will tell if that formula sticks or if the show reverts back to its old ways.
The X Factor continues tonight with an hour-long episode showing more action from the audition stages. Alesha Dixon will be standing in for Sharon during the show too so it’ll be interesting to see how she works alongside the existing panel.
