The X Factor 2016 week 6 live show recap

This week, The X Factor contestants were getting us ready for the dancefloor as it was Disco week. Supporting the contestants were judges, Sharon Osbourne, Nicole Scherzinger, Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell.

The remaining seven contestants from the overs, girls, groups and boys categories were singing to stay in the competition.

Saara Aalto

Thames / Syco Entertainment

The song: Barbara Streisand and Donna Summer – No More Tears (Enough is Enough)

Our verdict: Saara looked like she’d come from out of space with her mirror outfit and I liked it. Having had quite a few rough weeks ending up on the bottom two, I thought Saara deserves a break especially for being one of the best singers of the competition.

The comments: Louis thought she was incredible, Nicole said that she was a disco super woman and that it was her week. Simon went as far as to say that it was close to perfection and that the record sounded like it was written for her.

Sam Lavery

Thames / Syco Entertainment

The song: Gloria Gaynor – I Will Survive

Our verdict: Sam is a great singer especially at such a young age but I was disappointed with her sexed up version of a classic. I think Sam could have done a great job sticking to the original but didn’t believe in the arrangement.

The comments: Nicole cheered Sam for not losing her composure when she slipped on stage but didn’t think the song suited her. Louis also agreed that it she should have stuck to the original version. Sharon said she wanted to see her do something different next week and loved her voice. Mentor Simon thought that she controlled the song and her performance.

Ryan Lawrie

Thames / Syco Entertainment

The song: Wild Cherry – Play That Funky Music

Our verdict: I thought the song suited Ryan like a glove. I am still not too sure about his wardrobe choices but thought his performance was good. This one of his best performances so far in the competition.

The comments: Louis thought it was his best performance so far, Simon also liked the track and that he was so confident coming back from the bottom three.

Five after Midnight

The song: Boogie Wonderland

Our verdict: Disco should be no problem for the funkiest group to ever perform on The X Factor and Five After Midnight did not disappoint with their disco medley. I especially liked the bands r’n’b bridge. I still think that vocally, they haven’t progressed as quickly as other contestants.

The comments: Nicole thought it was so good and that the crowd said it all. Simon said that it was really working and that they were really showing their personality.

Matt Terry

Thames / Syco Entertainment

The song: The Emotions – Best of My Love

Our verdict: Matt started his performance off the stage and sounded great tonight. The song really suited his voice and I thought his performance was great. This was probably one of my favourite performances of the night.

The comments: Louis said that he had a great work ethic and great personality and loved his vocals. Sharon said he didn’t have to worry as he rose to another level tonight, Simon thought the second part of the song was great.

Emily Middlemas

Thames/ Syco Entertainment

The song: Rose Royce – Wishing on a Star

Our verdict: I absolutely love this song! I couldn’t have been happier to hear it sung by Emily. I thought the song arrangement did it justice and had a great modern twist to it.

The comments: Louis didn’t like the arrangement at all and Sharon also thought it was a downer and that she should let her personality shine through next week. Nicole said that she had to agree with the other judges and blamed Simon for the poor production. Simon disagreed but Emily agreed with the other judges herself.

Honey G

Thames / Syco Entertainment

The song: Bee Gees – Stayin’ Alive

Our verdict: Honey G was meant to sing a ballad this week but it didn’t feel like one at all. I thought that Honey’s performance was energetic but thought that her dance moves were awkward to watch. I have to say though that every week she gives the most energetic performances.

The comments: Louis said that it was another great performance from Honey and that she was getting better every week. Nicole said that she had become her new guilty pleasure. Simon added that she always gave 100%.

The X Factor 2016 will be back tomorrow night to announce who will be leaving the competition at 8pm on ITV.
