The fourth episode of The Walking Dead season 9 saw Rick (Andrew Lincoln) rushing to stop Maggie (Lauren Cohan) from going to kill Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
If you’re not up to date with The Walking Dead and like to avoid spoilers we suggest you don’t read any further.
Jesus (Tom Payne) let Rick know that Maggie was on her way to kill Negan. Rick tried to get a message to Alexandria before hopping on the back of Daryl’s (Norman Reedus) motorcycle. Daryl had been tasked with getting Rick out of the way while Maggie carried out her plan.
Rick and Daryl fought and ended up trapped down a large pit. A fight at the bridge camp involving the saviours attracted two large walker herds. Rick and Daryl managed to escape and Rick stayed behind while Daryl headed to camp.
Elsewhere, Michonne (Danai Gurira) spent some time talking with Negan. After a while she realised that he was trying to connect with her in order to get his beloved Lucille back.
At the junkyard Anne (Pollyanna McIntosh) thought about killing Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) but eventually let him live. She knocked him out and when he came to she had gone.
At the end of the episode, Rick tried to lead one of the two walker herds away from the bridge. His plan didn’t work and he ended up merging the two herds. His horse got spooked, throwing him off and he was impaled on a rebar as the walkers approached.
The next episode is What Comes After. Rick is forced to face the past as he struggles to maintain the safety of the communities and protect the future he and Carl envisioned.
AMC have said for a while that the next episode will be the last for Rick Grimes. We don’t know yet if he’ll live or die but hope they have something suitably epic planned.
