Logitech Bluetooth Speakers Z600 review

Logitech have just unveiled their newest speakers designed specifically to work with computers, smart phones and tablet devices. Logitech Bluetooth Speakers Z600 boast a subtle yet clean design that means they fit in nicely wherever you place them in your house. The two speakers connect to each other using a thin, flat cable connected to the power adaptor.

The right speaker, labelled the control speaker, contains all of the controls you need to get the speakers working. As well as having the power and the Bluetooth button, the speaker has a mini-USB port and an AUX jack so you can plug devices directly into the speakers should you wish. Of course the whole point of the speakers is to use their Bluetooth connectivity as they are the first from Logitech to utilise the technology.

One of the things that really impressed us about the speakers is the ease of setting them up. The booklet that accompanies them only gives you four pages of guidance and we’ve bought enough new technology over the years to know that when something claims to be simple to set up that it very rarely is. Imagine our surprise when these speakers took less than 30 seconds to set-up. With our iMac on and the speakers plugged in and turned on we simply had to press the Bluetooth button to kick off the pairing. Once pressed there was a prompt on the iMac screen asking if we wanted to use the device as our audio output which we confirmed. That was it, the speakers were all set up and ready to us. Colour us impressed.

Logitech Bluetooth Speakers Z600 allow you to connect up to three devices at one time and it’s easy to switch between them. You can pair a maximum of 8 devices in total. If your device doesn’t have Bluetooth built in then you simply need to use the USB transceiver which is supplied with the speakers and they work like a treat.

Once the speakers are up and running it’s incredibly easy to control audio volume. You can do it either through your device’s controls (e.g. the volume controls on your tablet device) or you can use the touch disc on top of the right speaker. Simply running your finger around the disc allows you to increase or decrease the volume as you wish. You can also tap the touch disc to determine if the speakers are on and a tone will sound if they are powered on.

Now the most important thing with any speakers is the sound quality and we were hugely impressed with Logitech Bluetooth Speakers Z600. You can get a lot of volume out of the speakers and they give a fantastic audio quality. Within minutes of using the speakers we realised that we’ve put up with sub-par sound from our various devices for far too long and the difference a good pair of speakers makes is really noticeable. The quality of the sound is perfect for all occasions but we would most likely use the speakers for everyday use or to play background music at a dinner-party.

There are only three things about the speakers that we can find in terms of negatives. Firstly the wire connection does mean you’re restricted as to how far apart the speakers can be placed. It would have been nice to have an option of battery powering them or charging them through the adapter so they can be used without wires for a period of time. Secondly it would be nice if you could get a little more control through the speakers such as skipping tracks, moving forward/backwards. These aren’t big negatives but they would have made the speakers next to perfect. Lastly we noticed there was a slight delay when watching video content on our devices. The audio was slightly behind which meant it was difficult to use them for audio-visual content due to the sync-issues.

Overall we were very impressed with the Logitech Bluetooth Speakers Z600. With their sleek and modern design, fantastic audio quality and easy set-up they work fantastically. Aside from the handful of negatives we mentioned, the speakers really changed the way we listen to our audio. We highly recommend them and think they are well worth the asking price of around £129.
