Hoover Velocity bagless upright vacuum cleaner review

We all like a clean and tidy house but keeping on top of the chores is an endless task, especially for families with kids and pets. The Hoover Velocity is an upright vacuum cleaner that aims to help you tackle every single kind of home vacuuming task you can imagine.

The Velocity boasts the highest AAAA rating. This is given for motor efficiency to reduce energy consumption (82 KWh/year), dust pick-up ratings and different surface types and also low emissions and HEPA filtration. As well as advanced dust separation there’s no loss of suction thanks to multi-cyclonic technology.

Out of the box it took just a couple of minutes to assemble the Velocity. This involved inserting the main handle into the cleaner body and attaching the various tools. A nice feature is that the height of the handle can be adjusted to your desired height.

Once fully assembled the Velocity is rather attractive to look at with a kind of futuristic aesthetic. It has a predominantly grey paint-job with flashes of dark red. It’s a lot less bulky than many upright hoovers and surprisingly light too weighing just 4.6kg.

The light weight makes the Velocity easy to use without getting fatigued. It’s also helps for carrying it around your house, including up and down stairs. To commence cleaning you simply hold your foot on the side of the base and tilt the handle back. There’s no clumsy button like some vacuum cleaners which removes the need to bend forwards to press a switch.

The Velocity is also designed to be manoeuvrable, once reclined you can easily tilt to the sides to steer around your furniture and get into harder to reach places. Another nice touch is a handy button next to the power button to turn the rotating brush bar on and off. These buttons are located at the top right next to the handle and make it easy to move from a carpeted area to a hard floor.

Another area that impressed was how quiet the Velocity seemed compared to other uprights I’ve used. It’s rated at just 27 dB and in use it didn’t upset our dog like our existing vaccuum which sounds like a jet engine.

A generous 7m long cord is included which reduces the need to keep moving between power sockets. There’s also a 4.5m stretch hose which can be attached to the removable handle. This allows you to clean an entire flight of stairs without having to keep re-positioning the Velocity. The long handle also makes it easy to reach ceilings to clear those pesky cobwebs.

The included tools are an extension tube, crevice tool, pets turbo brush, 2in1 dusting brush and an upholstery tool. Their names speak for themselves and each attaches to the end of the removable handle or hose. They all work well but I was particularly impressed by the pets turbo brush which made easy work of the small white hairs our Jack Russell leaves all over the house.

Emptying the Velocity is a quick and simple process. You press a button to release the 2 litre bin from the cleaner. Hold it over your own bin and press another button to release the bottom door. As long as you empty it regularly the collected dust just drops out.

Overall, the Hoover Velocity really impressed and it really can tackle all the different home vacuuming tasks. It has a really well thought out design making it easy to use. The variety of features combine to make cleaning easy and much less of a chore.
