Kara struggles with her identity in Supergirl season 3 trailer

Could Supergirl be about to get a whole lot darker? It certainly looks like it in the first season 3 trailer.

Kara (Melissa Benoist) is seen struggling with her dual identities after being forced to send Mon-El (Chris Wood) away to save his life at the end of season 2. In the trailer Kara says that her identity as Kara Danvers was a mistake and suggests that she can no longer masquerade as a human.

Other highlights from the trailer include a very much still together Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima), Erica Durance (Smallville) making her debut as Alura replacing Laura Benanti, the first glimpse of Reign (Odette Annable) and Morgan Edge (Adrian Pasdar) threatening Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath).

Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), who is confirmed to be in the season opener, is missing and there are only short glimpses of Winn (Jeremy Jordan), Jimmy (Mechad Brooks) and Jonn (David Harewood).

The new season certainly looks action-packed and if it does go a bit darker, that would be a good thing to take the show forward.
