Strictly Come Dancing 2016: meet Louise Redknapp

Louise Redknapp rose to fame as part of girl group Eternal in the 90s before embarking on a very successful solo career.

For her latest challenge, Louise is hitting the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom with her professional partner Kevin Clifton. Talking about her ideal dance partner she revealed:

“Iā€™d love somebody who I can feel really comfortable with, somebody that can support me and wonā€™t be really angry if I go wrong. Iā€™m really hard working and Iā€™m not a ā€˜letā€™s all mess aroundā€™ type person. Iā€™m a mum, Iā€™ve got my husband at home, Iā€™ll want to go and get on with the job in hand and Iā€™ll want to learn want I need to do and Iā€™ll do it to the best of my ability. I also know nerves can really get the better of me and Iā€™ll think it will be my biggest downfall. On performance night I just know my poor dancer will just have to stop me from shaking the whole way through!”

What is Louise looking forward to most about the Strictly experience?

“I think just having the opportunity to perform again. When youā€™ve grown up as a performer and youā€™ve been in the music industry and youā€™ve played at Wembley and youā€™ve done concerts everywhere, itā€™s all about performing. When all of the sudden thatā€™s taken away from you thereā€™s quite a big void of something you love to do and you donā€™t quite get the same buzz of performing in the lounge in front of your kids! I think just getting back out there and having the opportunity to perform to music is what Iā€™m most looking forward to. I think a lot of people go into Strictly wanting something out of it at the end. Iā€™m not doing it for that. Iā€™m quite happy with my life and I donā€™t want to do loads more, Iā€™m happy with my business, my kids, my everything else, so I think itā€™s just about having one last shot at putting on the dance shoes and a few jazz hands!”

When it comes to impressing with her dance moves, is there one judge Louise wants to get on side? “I think to impress them all is clearly the aim of the game. I really respect Darcey as a dancer. When I was younger I really loved watching her, Iā€™ve seen her in shows and I think sheā€™s incredible. I think to impress her on the dance front as a woman would be amazing but to impress them all would obviously be ideal!”
