Strictly Come Dancing 2016: meet Greg Rutherford

World champion long jumper Greg Rutherford is trying a different kind of sport by joining the 2016 series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The athlete, who is partnered with long-time Strictly pro Natalie Lowe, doesn’t rate his dancing skills despite being one of the fittest celebs this year.

“I have zero dance skills and I have zero dance experience so thatā€™s part of the concern I have! To be honest we just did a fitting for the outfits and I thought great I donā€™t mind doing any of that at all ā€“ I have to usually jump in a very tight vest and shorts so Iā€™m fine with that stuff but itā€™s more the fact that I hate not being good at things because normally anything I ever try like a sport or anything else I have some idea I can pick up quite quickly, so Iā€™m hoping I can pick this up.”

Greg admitted that he finds it odd to meet other famous people, despite being famous himself. “You know whatā€™s the weird thing? When you do sport and meet people who you deem as famous if you like, itā€™s always a bit odd. Iā€™m always like oh wow itā€™s so and so and Iā€™m still like that now so itā€™s going to be interesting meeting people.”

What will be his biggest challenge? ” At this time of year I normally completely switch off for six weeks. I stay at home a lot sitting around in my pants eating cakes because I donā€™t really get to do that the rest of the year and this is going to be one of the first years in a long time that Iā€™m training through.”
