Anastacia is known for her powerhouse voice but this autumn she’s hoping to show off her dancing skills as part of Strictly Come Dancing 2016.
The I’m Outta Love singer is partnered with Brendan Cole and she has a very personal reason as to why she’s taking part in the series.
“Iām taking part in Strictly for my own challenge as a woman recovering from so many different health issues. Most recently, I had a double mastectomy so for me it was kind of getting in touch with my female body and relearning to use my body on stage as a singer and I felt like when I was offered the opportunity I couldnāt say no. Dancing brings you closer to your womanly side and Iām kind of getting in touch with my female parts that are new, as theyāre only a couple of years old. 2013 was pretty much a whole year of surgeries and I just recently had a smaller surgery. Everything is good now but there is a lot of back and forth with surgeries. I would say Iām two years clean of those kinds of surgeries which is a relief as the recovery was a lot.”
Anastacia has her eye on the saucy Latin routines, which she can’t wait to learn.
“Any Latin situation Iām cool with. Those rhythms are something that I grew up with living in New York so Iām comfortable with those movements, not that Iām great at them but they feel more natural, the sound and everything about the tone of the Rumba but I donāt know any technical stuff!”
What will be her biggest challenge? “Trying to get out of my head properly and get into the movement. That whole outer body experience where Iām doing the move and it looks really weird but when your partner does it, it looks really great. When I do it Iāll look like Iām giving birth!”
