Scandal returned for its sixth season this week and what an explosive start!
The results of the Presidential Election were revealed and Frankie Vargas (Ricardo Chavira) was announced as the next President. A shocked Mellie (Bellamy Young) refused to concede but was eventually forced to do so by Olivia (Kerry Washington). The situation quickly escalated into chaos when Frankie was shot and killed while making his victory speech.
Abby (Darby Stanchfield) put the hospital on lockdown and refused to let the information about Frankie’s death be released until Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) made a decision on who should be the next President. Olivia was told by Rowan (Joe Morton) that Cyrus (Jeff Perry) arranged to have Frankie killed.
Olivia shared the information with Fitz, who refused to act on it until she had proof. When she failed to find anything, Fitz made a public announcement that Cyrus would become the next President, despite Mellie asking him to name her.
A little too late, Olivia discovered a call that had been made backing up the claim that Cyrus was behind Frankie’s death but the woman who made it was killed in an explosion. Olivia met with Cyrus and told him she knew what he’d done and that she was going to take him down.
Elsewhere in the episode Charlie (George Newbern) proposed to Quinn (Katie Lowes) and Marcus (Cornelius Smith Jr.) acted as press secretary for the White House.
The next episode of the season is Hardball. Flashbacks reveal how far Olivia was willing to go to win the election.
