Nashville renewed for season 6 by CMT

Nashies rejoice – Nashville will be returning for a sixth season to CMT.

UK fans proceed with caution as this article contains major spoilers about the fifth season of Nashville.

The news was just announced via a Facebook Live stream by Charles Esten and Hayden Panettiere from the Nashville set. The sixth season of the show will consist of 16 episodes and will premiere early 2018.

It’s also been announced that the fifth season of Nashville will resume on Thursday 1st June 2017 at 9pm ET/PT on CMT in the US. New episodes will continue to stream on Hulu the day after they premiere on CMT.

Since making its debut on CMT, Nashville has generated record-breaking ratings for the network. It’s the highest-rated and most-watched show in CMT’s history averaging 2.1 million viewers a week.

The show has had fans in tears this season as Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton) was killed off following a car accident. Connie Britton had played coy about her future on the show but the speculation was proven true with the shocking twist.

When Nashville returns for the second half of its fifth season, three new cast members will be joining – Rachel Bilson (The OC), Kaitlin Doubleday (Empire) and Jeffrey Nordling (Big Little Lies). Jeffrey will play Brad Maitland, ‘an extremely successful, charming, egotistical, narcissistic owner of the most successful record label in Nashville’. The roles of Rachel and Kaitlin are being kept under wraps.

The midseason premiere picks up 10 weeks after the events that unfolded in the midseason finale. Deacon helps Daphne with a school project, but Daphne feels unmotivated. Juliette gives Maddie unsolicited advice about a song. Scarlett and Gunnar receive news about the baby.
