The Script are undoubtedly one of the most popular groups to have come out of the UK in recent years. Having broken America, they have the success and popularity some bands can only dream of emulating.
Releasing their third studio album titled #3 late last year, If You Could See Me Now is their third single from this album.
If You Could See Me Now is The Script’s take on grief, and how to deal with it. Frontman Danny O’Donoghue’s father died suddenly on Valentine’s Day back in 2009, and guitarist Mark Sheehan’s mother had died from cancer a few months earlier. It had taken them until now to write about their grief and the sense of losing someone close.
Listening to the single, one can tell that this song is from the heart and very raw. Every line has some kind of personal meaning. Each one of us can relate to losing someone who is close to us.
The following lyrics sums it up: “Because the man wasn’t good he was great / I’m tryna make you proud / Do everything you did / hope you’re up there with God / Saying that’s my kid”
Another line that had us moved was: “I still look for your face in the crowd, oh if you could see me now.”
If You Could See Me Now begins with a piano intro, then launches straight into Danny rapping the first verse. The beat and tempo of the track is very catchy. The upbeat chorus, along with the passionate lyrics, makes it a very moving song.
