The Joy Formidable are a refreshing and exciting alternative rock band, hailing from North Wales. Little Blimp is their new single, from their acclaimed second studio album called Wolf’s Law. Wolf’s Law is an album which has cemented their status as being one of the UK’s most important alternative rock bands around at the moment. The Joy Formidable have been touring relentlessly for the past 6 months, including supporting Muse on their huge American Autumn arena tour and a run of dates with Bloc Party in February and they are currently headlining a 3 month US tour, which started last month, following several high profile shows at SXSW.
Electric riffs and a steady drum beat opens up Little Blimp. We listened to the song, nodding along all the way through, then hit repeat. We did the same again when it came to an end the third time, then the fourth. Yes, it is one of those songs that you can listen to over and over again. “We’ll ride this, we’ll ride this easily, we’ll ride this, we’ll ride this surely” is sung in a way that takes it from being quite gentle to straight talking and all the different elements and tones in the vocals make this a very exciting track and very interesting to listen to and after a few plays, you can’t help but sing along to it, which is quite an impact after only a few plays, so this is one that we’re going to be singing for months!
The track ends at a relatively short 2 minutes 43 seconds and it hits all the right nails on the head and we can’t really fault it. There are some great hooks to the song and it just makes us want to stick on Wolf’s Law, as it’s such a catchy number and listening to just the one song doesn’t satisfy us enough! It’s just another really great track from the band, that will have their fans and their new fans delighted with the sounds that they keep producing.
