How is Little Mix not the biggest girl group in the world right now? Since winning The X Factor in 2011, the group has gone on to score two number one singles (Cannonball, Wings) and two Top 5 platinum selling albums (DNA, Salute). Easily one of the best, if not THE best, acts to come out of The X Factor, Little Mix should be selling at lest double what they currently do in the UK and their excellent 2013 album Salute is one of the best pop records of recent years. Ahead of the release of their third album later this year, Little Mix have just released new single Black Magic.
On first listen Black Magic doesn’t have the same instant appeal as previous lead singles Wings and Move but if you give it several listens you’ll understand the magic (no pun intended) of the track. It’s a real pure pop rush ready to dominate the airwaves this summer with its bouncy beat and slick harmonies. Black Magic soars on its chorus where the four girls come together and deliver an undeniably catchy hook that you’ll be singing in no time.
The accompanying music video attracted over 1 million views in less than 24 hours and shows the girls paying homage to classic cult horror movie The Craft. It’s a fun video that is clearly aiming to crack the US market as well as the UK and the rest of the world.
Black Magic is a real grower and repeated listens will ensure that you can get enough of it. It’s a solid lead single for the girls’ upcoming third album and it should do well in the UK charts over the next week. Could album number three be the one that finally transforms the group from successful to megastars? Black Magic is a promising start so we really hope so!
