Daughtry at Hammersmith Eventim Apollo live review

The last time we caught Daughtry live was at the Roundhouse, where they were touring with their album Baptized. Due to their global popularity, they don’t often get to spend a lot of time in the UK, but when they do, boy do they show up and put on a great show! With the release of their greatest hits collection, the band are in the midst of a global tour yet again, and this time was London’s turn. They always seem genuinely glad to be here. Their fans here certainly love them and the energy in the Hammersmith Eventim Apollo was off the scale, with the fans singing along to every single word of every track.

Coming on to the stage in a hoodie and buzzing with energy, Chris Daughtry jumped up and down, run across the stage from one end to the other, in a constant state of excitement. The band opened with Do Down, quickly followed by Outta My Head and the Hammersmith Eventim Apollo was rocking. Waiting For Superman, off their Baptized album is one of my favourite songs of theirs and the whole crowd linked arms, swayed, danced, threw their hands up in the air to every line of the song. A cover of Phil Collins In The Air Tonight was a nice and mellow touch. What About Now was made to be sung in stadiums, it’s powerful sound and huge chorus drowned out the venue and you could almost not hear the band, for the crowd were singing the song so passionately.

Their set went by far, far too quickly for our liking! We could have easily have sat through another hour or two of them. Their encore came and went in the blink of an eye also, which saw them ending with a wonderful tribute to Prince, by singing Purple Rain. Seeing Daughtry live is just wonderful. The crowd love them, they love being there. A Daughtry gig is elevating and puts you in the best of moods. Interacting with the crowd, Chris told us how happy they were to be back in London. The feeling was definitely mutual.

I am passionate about everything any anything that involves music, theatre and the arts! I love interviewing artists and getting to learn more about them. When I’m not doing artsy things, you may find me watching rugby, singing with my choir and travelling to a new part of the world. Carpe diem.
