This yearās C2C: Country to Country saw the return of the Satellite Stage, now known as the Yamaha Music Stage, where two artists perform each day between the main stage artists. The first act was Nashville star Charles Esten, better known as his character name Deacon Claybourne, and he took to the Yamaha Music Stage right after Thomas Rhettās blistering performance.
For his 3-song set Esten chose to do an original track, a cover and a song that most people recognised from Nashville. Estenās original track was a guttural Country track that allowed him to showcase his voice in a way he never gets to do on the show. The song had a slow build that grew into an almost animal-like growl by the end. Esten was accompanied by Colin Linden, the guitarist that does the studio recordings for Estenās Nashville character that are used in the show, throughout his set.
For his cover Esten chose to honour David Bowie by putting a Country twist on Heroes, which went down well with the audience. Esten finished his set with A Life Thatās Good, a song that has become one of the best-known from the show. The song prompted a sing-along with the audience as Esten basked in the glorious applause and cheering he got throughout the performance.
If Estenās three-song set was anything to go by, fans are going to be in for a real treat when some of the Nashville cast embarks on a UK tour this summer. Earlier in the day Esten told press that he had always loved music but put it to one side for acting. Weāre glad heās had the chance to pick up his musical talents again as heās clearly a natural!
