Every Saturday, ANTS takes centre-stage at Ushuaia’s famous poolside. This infamous party starts mid-afternoon at Playa d’en Bossa and visitors can enjoy some of the best names in deep house and techno on the small Island.
Unlike other Ushuaia parties, ANTS kicks off behind the pool in the DJ booth and then for a few hours the main acts play on the main stage right at the front of the pool. I went last Saturday to catch sets from Andrea Oliva, Francisco Allendes, Lauren Lane, Nic Fanciulli, Waze & Odyssey and UNER.
Ushuaia Hotel is a great venue, the pool is surrounded by apartments all overlooking it and holiday-goers can enjoy the party from the comfort of their own balcony, whilst everyone else dances around and inside the small pool. The sound-system is also worth a mention, considering Ushuaia events take place outside its impressive how load the system is and took me by surprise the first time I went. Part of a new complex Ushuaia is quite fancy and appeals to beautiful people who want to party in an idyllic setting. The prices are to the island’s standards so come prepared.
I arrived in time to catch Lauren Lane’s set in the small DJ booth at the back. Her tracks, which were heavy and deep, set the right mood for the afternoon. Even though the sun was till shining and hot, the music made me feel like I was in a deep dark club. The atmosphere at Ushuaia was good and the venue got packed really quickly but even so there was plenty of space to dance comfortably.
After Lauren Lane it was time for some Andrea Oliva, who kicked off his set on the main stage. The DJ booth boasts a great soundsystem but the main-stage’s is on a different league. Oliva’s set didn’t disappoint and was packed with big bass that rocked the crowd. Having been at Ushaia earlier in the week for another event, I was delighted that ANTS kept to serious house and didn’t bother with cheesy EDM tunes. This was house music for purists, who want to kick off their party day in style. Ushuaia was banging big tunes till midnight, there were also professional ANTS’ dancers to our viewing pleasure and pyrotechnics, which put up the heat.
ANTS is a party for purists, who want real beats and don’t care about mainstream house. With its great setting, amazing soundsystem and great DJ choice ANTS is one hell of a party well worth a try.
