Aled Jones and Russell Watson – In Harmony album launch

Aled Jones and Russell Watson have pulled together their powerhouse talents, to create an album, called In Harmony. As two of the classical world’s most loved vocalists, they have enjoyed record-breaking sales. They have sold almost 18 million records between them. Aled Jones and Russell Watson have been great friends for over 20 years, due to moving in the same classical circles. So, how did this album come about? Their reply was, that the idea to make the album came about after an evening of drinking too much wine, and thinking it would be a good idea!

The pair will be taking the album on tour across the UK and Ireland in late 2019, so they have a very exciting time ahead of them. We were invited to get a sneak preview of some of the songs that feature on the album, and the showcase was held at the Arts Club, in London’s Mayfair.

Where Have All The Flowers Gone / Here’s To The Heroes was the first song of the evening, which will also be their first single release. The release marks the 70th anniversary of the NHS, as well as the centenary of the end of the First World War. Russell Watson’s voice live, is astonishing to listen to. Paired with Aled Jones, they are a formidable force, where you really feel their words and emotions. On stage, they are warm and the camaraderie flowed. Volare, sounded stunning, especially in such an intimate setting. They are used to packing out huge arenas, and Aled joked that the tiny room wasn’t anything like the Cathedrals that he’s used to singing in.

What’s the best Christmas song around? Many ideas were thrown around the room, before launching in to Silent Night. Aled Jones said that it was like Christmas every day to him (thanks to the royalty check that Walking in the Air, the hit song from the Christmas animated film ‘The Snowman’ continuously brings him!) And Russell chipped in, that it felt like Christmas every day when they were working together. Silent Night sounded magically uplifting, making the crowd feel all warm and cosy.

Often laughing, bear hugging, and patting each other on the back, they look like they are having a ball, which makes their performance together even more special. The album seems like a natural collaboration for them, every song is beautifully done, and they make it all seem so effortless. It was a short and sweet set, that really showed how they work amazingly well together and how much fun the tour is going to be – including impressions from Russell and jokes thrown in from Aled thrown-in between their songs!

In Harmony will be released November 9th via BMG.
