The Virginmarys – King Of Conflict album review

The Virginmarys are releasing their debut album, which was produced by Toby Jepson. The band have been touring all over the place with the likes o Slash, Reverend & The Makers, Feeder, We are Scientists and many more. King of Conflict is released via DoubleCross Records and here are our thoughts about it.

The album kicks off with the uplifting Dead Man’s Shoes. Don’t be fooled by the name of the song this is a feel-good track and will get you on your feet quite quickly. The guitar riffs get us going during the verse and before long the chorus explodes in your ears with its magnitude. There is definitely a bit of the Foo Fighters in The Virginmarys, in this track particularly.

Portrait of Red teases you with a mix of quiet and hard riffs and then we get to a breezy verse, which descends into an all mighty chorus. The lyrics will undoubtedly stick too ‘baby treat my body like a canvas’ but the best is yet to come with an awesome bridge that leads the way to a great guitar solo, fine music indeed.

Smoothing things down is Out of Mind, which has a bit of hair metal in it. Be sure to rock your head back to front whilst listening to this track and make sure your hair is messy for best effect. The track has also another great guitar solo and some impressive soaring vocals. Lost Weekend is also quite mellow with some bass-lines and deep guitar riffs.

Like a bang, Bang Bang Bang jumps into the scene,. This infectious track is easily a favourite its fun lyrics and uplifting tempo. More guitar riffs and an edgy vibe make this definitely one of our favourite tracks on the album. Running For My Life also has one of our favourite choruses, which is ballsy and powerful.

Another track that catches our attention is Takin’ The Blame. There’s enough edge on this one to really get you going. Then there is also You’ve Got Your Money, I’ve Got My Soul, which has some meaningful lyrics attached to it.

The album ends with a stunning hidden track after Ends Don’t Mend. The Virginmarys show off their soft side and we love them for it.

We do thoroughly enjoy this album it’s filled with a multitude of catchy riffs and guitar solos that will blow you away. King of Conflict is a great album the only criticism might be that you can easily make out what The Virginmarys influences are. We’d like to see them mature into their own sound.
